Genevieve Fletcher's

Birthday Party

July 18, 2009

A birthday to remember. Genevieve desired to do a service project for her 24th birthday. DUVALWAV volunteers joined with the Boy Scouts, Troop 37, and Genevieve's birthday guests, to travel via kayak and canoe to Pescatello Island from Bogey Creek Landing. Their task was to clear a partly built trail that hadn't been worked on since last October. With over 40 people in attendance, this group of hearty volunteers not only cleared and completed the trail from west to east, they also picked up three trash bags of trash, got caught in an afternoon thunderstorm, returned to Bogey Creek at low tide, getting stuck in the mud, and the Boy Scout trailer got stuck also...but trails are cleared and North Florida Land Trust has a unique property available to give tours on.

Many thanks to the volunteers, young and old alike that worked side by side and digilently to reach the far end of the island. There's rumor now, that several of the boy scouts are in need of an Eagle project. Sounds like a great partnership in the future.

Kayaking Tour of Goelz Preserve in Ponte Vedra

While watching out for alligators as mating season was just around the corner, a group of dedicated, experienced kayakers had a relaxing paddle through the Goelz Preserve in Ponte Vedra Beach. It was hard to believe that there were roads on both sides of the preserve as all you saw and heard was the natural environment. When the fall months arrive, we'll be scheduling tours again. Call for information.

Horseback Riding Tour of Princess Place

In the spirit of getting people on the land, the North Florida Land Trust partnered with Palm Valley Ranch to offer private VIP tours of Princess Place in Flagler County. Both summer events sold out. Don't miss this incredible opportunity to enjoy nature in a different way. There was one couple who celebrated their 34th wedding anniversary with the ride and a stay at a Bed & Breakfast in Flagler Beach. Three more rides will be scheduled this fall. Call and reserve your spot by contacting Palm Valley Ranch at 904-813-5710.
